Sunwich Port Beach

(KwaZulu Natal)

Sunwich Port Beach is one of the gems of the South Coast and has a great child friendly tidal pool, rocks to explore, save swimming area (with shark nets) that is watched over by attentive life guards and is great for taking a long walk.  It is also a popular spot for snorkeling and to cast your fishing lines from the rocks or from the shore while you are enjoying the gorgeous views as you wait for the big one to bite.

Access to the beach

Access to the Sunwich Port Beach
  1. Sunwich Port Beach can easily be reached from the parking area by way of a walkway that passes next to the life guards’ building/ablution facilities and ends at the edge of the sand allowing you to walk directly onto the beach.

  2. At the far side of the parking area a short dirt road leads to a separate barbecue area under the trees and a quieter area of the beach.

Tidal Pool

Sunwich Port Beach Tidal Pool

The tidal pool was filled to the edge with sand after a very energetic spring tide turning it into a shallow pool that is ideal for smaller children.  Over time some of the sand was washed away as the tides came and went and it is around hip height at the deeper side now.
