Port Shepstone Beach

When thinking about the Port Shepstone beach the terms  ‘big and impressive’ comes to mind.  The beach area appears big in that it gives the impression of being very long as it seems to stretch the whole length of the roadway that runs along it.

The tidal pool is huge and fits the long beach perfectly.  On the day I visited the beach to take the photos you see below, a lifeguard was paddling around it!

Access to the beach

Access to the Port Shepstone Beach

Since the road leading to the Port Shepstone beach was build to be much higher than the beach area, access at the main entrance is limited to a walkway ending in steps leading down to the sand.
There are only steps at the other entrance.

The advantage of this is that there are beautiful views to be enjoyed even before you made your way down to the beach area.

Tidal Pool

Port Shepstone Beach Tidal Pool

The tidal pool is simply put, huge!  Have a look at the right hand corner of the pool where the life guard is paddling to get a better understanding of how big it really is.  The pool is divided into three sections; the big pool with two smaller pools at the end of it.

Adults and kids will both find there will be a perfect area for them to have fun in the sun.  Some parts of the pool are swallow making it ideal for smaller kids while there is also a deeper area if you like to swim long laps.

Parking area

Parking area at the Port Shepstone Beach

There is a long parking area at the side of the road that runs along the lenght of the Port Shepstone beach that supplies plenty of parking space.   Do note that it tends to fill up quickly during the height of the holiday season.

It is the perfect place to park your car to sit and enjoy the beautiful views when you don’t feel like going down to the beach.
