Doonside Beach

(Amanzimtoti)

Doonside beach is yet another great KZN South Coast beach for a day of fun in the sun.  It is a quick ride from the center of Amanzimtoti, has plenty of parking, a great deck that offers spectacular views in all directions and an inviting sandy beach.

Although it doesn’t have a tidal pool, the beach is perfect for swimming – you won’t even miss a pool.  The life guards on duty, on the day we visited the beach, were very friendly and kept a watchful eye on us as we explored the beach.

Warner Beach is close by and can be reached by taking a stroll of about 150 meters to the right of the Doonside beach.  Warner Beach has a tidal pool and a small restuarant while Doonside Beach is more quiet but has spectacular views from the deck.

This lovely beach can be accessed in several ways:

  1. Steps leads down to the beach on the left side of the viewing deck.
  2. There is also a stairway leading from the lawn and lookout deck in front of the lifeguards’ offices and lookout tower.
  3. To the side entrance is a wide slipway that leads to the right side of the beach.  It runs next to the Little Manzimtoti river.

Parking

There is a large and safe parking area at the Doonside beach.  The one side is lined with sturdy shady trees to park your car under.

Trees in a parking area is a rarity on the coast because of the strong winds that sometimes blow and can cause damage to trees and cars alike.  Enjoy the rare shade you’ll have here!
