Visit KZN | KZN South Coast

Margate Weather

Margate is celebrated as the “holiday capital” of the KZN South Coast, largely due to its exceptional subtropical climate that offers over 300 days of sunshine a year. Summers (December to February) are warm and humid, with temperatures averaging around 28°C—perfect for cooling off at our world-class Blue Flag beaches. While refreshing afternoon thunderstorms are common during this peak season, they rarely interrupt a full day of fun.

The Sweet Spot for Margate Weather

The “sweet spot” for many visitors is autumn (April to May), when the wind drops, the humidity clears, and the ocean remains pleasantly balmy. Winter (June to August) is famously mild, with daytime highs reaching a comfortable 23°C. This is a prime time for outdoor activities without the summer heat, such as shopping in Margate for local crafts or heading down to the Margate Pier to watch the annual Sardine Run and whale migrations. Whether you are visiting for the summer buzz or a quiet winter retreat, Margate’s weather rarely disappoints.
