Doonside Beach is yet another fantastic KZN South Coast beach for a laid-back day of sun, sea, and scenic views. Just a short drive from the centre of Amanzimtoti, this beach is easy to reach and offers plenty of parking close to the shoreline.
One of Doonside’s standout features is its elevated viewing deck, which offers panoramic views along the coastline. It’s the perfect spot for whale watching during migration season, early-morning sunrises, or simply relaxing with the ocean breeze and a camera in hand.
Swimming, Safety & Seaside Simplicity
Although Doonside Beach does not have a tidal pool, it more than makes up for it with excellent swimming conditions and clean, inviting sand. The ocean here is ideal for confident swimmers, and you won’t miss a pool once you’re in the water.
The beach is lifeguard-protected, and during our visit the friendly lifeguards kept a watchful eye on beachgoers, adding to the relaxed and safe atmosphere that makes Doonside popular with both locals and visitors.
Walk to Warner Beach & Tidal Pool Fun
For those who enjoy exploring, Warner Beach is just a short stroll away — about 150 metres to the right of Doonside Beach. Warner Beach offers a popular tidal pool, making it a great option for families with young children or anyone who prefers calmer waters.
There’s also a small restaurant at Warner Beach, perfect for grabbing a bite or a cold drink after a swim. While Warner Beach tends to be a bit busier, Doonside remains quieter, making it ideal if you’re looking for peace, space, and uninterrupted sea views.

Access to the beach
This lovely beach can be accessed in several ways:
- Steps lead down to the beach on the left side of the viewing deck.
- There is also a stairway leading from the lawn and lookout deck in front of the lifeguards’ offices and lookout tower.
- To the side entrance is a wide slipway that leads to the right side of the beach. It runs next to the Little Manzimtoti River.

There is a large, safe parking area at Doonside Beach. One side is lined with sturdy, shady trees for parking.
Trees in a parking area are rare on the coast because strong winds can damage both trees and cars. Enjoy the rare shade you’ll have here!
